The Monasteries of Meteora, mainland.

This tour is specially made for Monasteries. We will drive you to a list of Monasteries where you can spend as much time as you like, and after that we will drive you back to the Corfu port or Hotel.

Begin with a pickup from your hotel or the cruise port

Then hop inside your private, air-conditioned vehicle and travel to Kalambaka. This will be approximetly 3 hours drive, We can stop for Snacks as and when required. Kalampaka is known all over Greece and the world because of the famous Monasteries that exist on the top of the rocks of the Meteora that are at the north-eastern side of it.  It is the starting place for those visitors who wish to be familiar with the monuments and the magnificent sites of Aspropotamos of Hasia, of Koziakas and especially of the Meteora. The ancient name of the city was Aeginion, 

You can visit two or three Monasteries of your preference from the below list-

1. Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration (Metamorphosis) of Christ (Great-Meteoron) - It was founded in the middle of the 14th century by Holy Athanasios the Meteorite (first owner and organiser of the Monastic coenobium) at the largest rock (Wide Rock).
2. Holy Monastery of Varlaam - Located opposite the Great Meteoro. Its founder is the hermit Varlaam in the middle of 14th century. Later, it was renovated by the brothers Theophanis and Nektarios Apsaras from Ioannina.
3. Holy Monastery of Saint Stephen - At the Holy Convent of Saint Stephen, in the old “trapeza”(dining hall) that has turned into a museum, there is a remarkable and rich collection of manuscripts, icons and sacred heirlooms.
4. Holy Monastery of Holy Trinity - At the Holy Convent is the chapel of Holy Baptist, inside a carved rock with important frescos since 1682.  The manuscripts of the Holy Monastery are kept in the sacristy of the Holy Monastery of Saint Stephen
5. Holy Monastery of Rousanou - It was at first a male Monastery, while now is female. The first owner/owners built the Monastery in the 14th-15th century. It took its present form in the early 16th century, by the monks and brothers Ioasaf and Maxim from Ioannina. The catholic is devoted to the Transfiguration of Jesus. Also, the memory of Saint Barbara is honoured (4th December). The frescos are remarkable and are created by an unknown hagiographer influenced by the Cretan school under the monk Arsenios, (perhaps by Georgie, student of Theophanis the Cretan).
6. Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas Anapafsas - In the Holy Monastery there is the chapel of Saint Antony, where remains of the frescos of 14th century exist. The few manuscripts of the Holy Monastery are kept in the sacristy of the Holy Convent of Saint Stephen

End your tour with a drop-off back at your hotel or Lgoumenitsa port after approximately Four hours of exploring.
